First-ever Look Inside Apple Campus 2

We've heard a little about the new Apple Campus 2 to be built in Cupertino, California. Now feast your eyes on these photos.   http://www.applegazette.com/apple-inc/first-ever-look-inside-apple-campus-2/   But, now  http://www.applegazette.com/apple-inc/5-mind-blowing-facts-about-apple-campus-2/    Here's just two amazing facts:  If you could stand it up like a wheel it would be the 8th tallest building in the world.  It's more spacious than the Empire State Building.
The Cupertino City Council voted unanimously October 15 to allow Apple Inc. to get to work on bringing its ring-shaped mega campus to the city.  The Apple employees are currently spread across 80 buildings in the city.  The new campus will see the 16,000 Apple employees in the city grow to 24,000 upon completion, according to the Mercury News.  www.mercurynews.com/cupertino/ci_24325971/cupertino-apple-campus-2-clears-final-hurdle

More on Mavericks

"I was using Mavericks and suddenly a dialog box popped up and asked if I'd like to take a tour of the new features. I clicked sure, and off we went. It highlighted and explained the more significant features and improvements of 10.9.

"I thought this was a nice idea and a nice touch by Apple. BTW, if you should use the Avast AV program on your Mac, it is compatible with 10.9,"  and so Jim Hamm continues with his introduction to the newest and greatest.
Anyone else taken the plunge?  Let's hear from you, too.

Apple's Announcements Today

Today was the big day.  Take a look at the latest here:  http://www.apple.com   and see keynote,   and look here for two entries posted today: http://www.apple.com/hotnews/
Prez Art Gorski sends along this link http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/09/apples-overhauled-ios-7-is-coming-september-18-to-an-idevice-near-you/ , with his comment, "In just over a week, your iPad or iPhone will have a software update to iOS 7.  This will be a total makeover, changing the look of just about everything, and adding some new features.  It will take a little time to get used to it all, and hopefully Apple will provide some tutorials for users."

Microsoft + Skype + What's Next?

Keeping up with the latest news Jim Hamm fills us in with this,  "Here's an interesting article about Microsoft's Ballmer by Pogue of the New York Times. I happen to agree with Pogue's assessment. I don't think Ballmer has been good for Microsoft. And that's sad because Microsoft has been (and still could be) a great company with the proper visionary leader.

"A similar fate could befall Apple as well. I think Tim Cook made a great COO. He's good at organizational functions -- production, inventory levels, timely deliveries, etc -- but I don't think he's a visionary. I really don't have a good inside grasp on Apple's management team, but based on what I've read Jony Ive seems to be a visionary at Apple. Others may be as well. Time will tell.
"As a side note -- talking about Microsoft -- since Microsoft bought Skype the performance of Skype has deteriorated. It is difficult now to maintain a video connection on Skype. I don't know if somehow Microsoft has caused this, but something has happened. I've quit using Skype and now use Google+Hangouts. One can stay connected on a video chat -- much better than Skype.

And here's Jim's last comment, delivered with his trademarked grin, "I guess I'll just blame Skype's deterioration on Ballmer too."

OS X Mavericks: Hands-On

"Here is an article from MacWorld with comments about their hands-on experience with OS X Mavericks, to be released this fall. With various recent articles commenting on password security -- or lack thereof -- in browsers, read the section about a new feature: iCloud Keychain," Jim Hamm informs us.  Scroll down about half way for that password security feature.

Happy Computer = Happy You

Hope it doesn't happen to you!  The latest posting at Tech Tails gives you some remedies for food/water accidental damages. It's a Small Dog Electronics newsletter  http://blog.smalldog.com/techtails/tt879
And while you're in the vicinity check out another of their weekly newsletters http://blog.smalldog.com/kibbles/  .  Here's their phrase:  “that spinning data depository in your Mac could suddenly become little more than a good doorstop,”  speaking of your hard drive inside your computer.  Read about the Time Capsule that's on sale.

More About Price Fixing

"If you were a bit fuzzy about Apple's role in the recent Ebook price fixing suit, and the decision in the U.S. District Court against Apple -- as I was -- here is an article that helps to clarify the situation," writes Jim Hamm.  He goes on, " Also, within the article is another link to an article by CNNMoney that gives an update on the story, which you may want to read also.

"Of course, Apple appealed the decision. Will be interesting to learn what the appeals court has to say about this, and what logic Apple uses to state that Judge Cote's decision was fallacious."
