Problem
I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max with iOS 27 and an 11" M5 iPad Pro with iPadOS 27. In Contacts of both of those devices, hundreds of contacts are now missing as of this morning.
I have an 13" M4 MacBook Pro with macOS 27, and all entries in Contacts are intact.
Solution
Since your contacts are still intact on your MacBook Pro, it is likely a syncing issue rather than permanent data loss. You can often resolve this by refreshing the iCloud Contacts sync on your affected devices, or by
restoring an earlier version of your contacts from iCloud.com. Here are the steps you can take to restore your missing contacts:
Refresh iCloud Contacts Sync
If the issue is a simple sync glitch, toggling the connection off and on can force your contacts to reappear.
1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad and tap your name at the top.
2. Tap iCloud, then tap See All (or Show All).
3. Turn off the toggle next to Contacts.
4. When prompted, select Keep on My iPhone (or iPad).
5. Wait about 30 seconds, then turn the toggle back on and select Merge.
Restore from iCloud.com
If refreshing the sync does not work, you can restore an archived version of your contacts from before they went missing.
1. Sign in to iCloud.com using your Apple Account on a computer or tablet.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Data Recovery.
3. Select Restore Contacts.
4. Choose Restore next to a date prior to when the contacts disappeared.
5. Confirm by selecting Restore again.
Note: Restoring an archive will replace the contacts on all of your devices, but iCloud automatically saves your current list beforehand in case you need to revert back.
