To capture a flat, perfectly sized image of a book page on your iPhone, you can use the built-in document scanner in the Notes or Files app. This feature automatically detects the edges of the page, flattens the perspective, and crops it to the exact size of the document.
For the best results, place your book on a flat surface in a well-lit area, ideally against a dark background so your phone can easily detect the edges. Hold your phone directly above the page, keeping it as level and centered as possible. Your iPhone will automatically capture the scan when it detects the page boundaries, or you can tap the shutter button manually.
How to Scan in the Notes App
Open the Notes app and create a new note or open an existing one.
Tap the Camera icon (or the attachment icon) in the toolbar, then select Scan Documents.
Position your iPhone over the book page. A yellow overlay will appear as it detects the edges.
Hold still for the automatic capture, or tap the shutter button.
If needed, drag the corners to adjust the scan to fit the page perfectly, then tap Keep Scan.
Tap Save when you are finished.
How to Scan in the Files App
If you prefer to save the scan directly as a PDF file rather than inside a note, you can use the Files app:
Open the Files app and navigate to the folder where you want to save the scan.
Tap the three-dot menu (...) in the top right corner and select Scan Documents.
Position your phone over the page to capture it automatically, or tap the shutter button.
Tap Save to finish.
Tips for a Perfect Scan
Use Good Lighting: Ensure the page is well-lit to avoid shadows.
Contrast is Key: Place the book on a dark table or surface so the white pages stand out clearly to the camera.
Flatten the Page: Try to hold the book as flat as possible, or use your fingers to hold the edges down (you can crop them out later if needed).
Manual Mode: If the automatic scanner is capturing too quickly or missing the edges, tap the Auto button at the top of the screen to switch to Manual mode. This lets you take the photo yourself and manually adjust the corners.
